Kelvin Grove's new pool

The latest edition to the Kelvin Grove Urban Village is an aquatic centre complete with an eight-lane, 25-metre heated pool.

The pool is lifeguard patrolled at all times and pool goers can swim for pleasure or fitness, and take aquarobics, learn-to-swim and stroke correction classes.

The Healthstream Aquatic Centre, situated on the ground floor at 44 Musk Avenue, is open to the public:

Monday to Thursday 6.00am to 8.00pm
Friday 6.00am to 6.00pm, and
Saturday/Sunday 9.00am to 5.00pm.

From mid November, the fitness club will also include a fully equipped 1100 square metre gymnasium and sports stadium. The gym will include free weights, pin-loaded machines and cardio equipment, and offer classes from the popular BodyPump and BodyStep, to Pilates and yoga in a group fitness room. A stadium on the top level will cater for a range of sports including futsal (indoor soccer), badminton, table tennis and netball.

Experience the Saturday morning markets

The Village Markets

With the warmer weather and longer hours of daylight, now is the perfect time to visit ‘The Village Markets’ at Kelvin Grove Urban Village.

Held each Saturday morning from 6.00am to 1.00pm along Blamey Street, from Musk Avenue to Victoria Park Road, they have been dubbed ‘the affordable farmers markets’.

Established in June, the markets have grown to include over 50 stalls offering fresh fruit and vegetables, specialist farm produce, exotic ethnic food, interesting eclectic goods, jewellery and clothing. They will be held each Saturday during December and January.

Please be aware that Blamey Street from Musk Avenue to Victoria Park Road is closed from 12.00am Friday until after the markets close each Saturday.

For more information or to enquire about including a stall, contact Peter Hackworth on 07 3870 2807 or email phackwor@eis.net.au.

Village a popular choice for owner occupiers

Village a popular choice

With a tightening rental market and rising rents, Kelvin Grove Urban Village is proving a popular choice for Brisbane residents making the leap from the rental market to being owner-occupiers.

Chris and Kay Richards made the move from their two-bedroom Spring Hill rental to purchasing a two-bedroom apartment at the Village Centre.

"We loved living inner city but our regular rent increases led us to purchase our next home, rather than continue renting," Mr Richards said.

"Moving to the Kelvin Grove Urban Village has meant a relatively smooth transition from renting to becoming an owner-occupier.

"We now have the best of both worlds; our own inner city home with resort style common facilities without the regular rent increases, intrusions and demands of landlords.

"Our move from renting to buying has brought a great lifestyle to our inner city living. Our only regret is that we did not do it sooner," Mr Richards said.

The Richards are not alone. Several residents have overcome the rental shortage by purchasing apartments in the Village Centre and becoming owner occupiers.

Keith Linn purchased an apartment in the Village Centre shortly after he discovered rental apartments were in short supply due to the huge demand.

"I wanted to live in the Kelvin Grove Urban Village as it is close to uni and the city so commuting is not an issue," Mr Linn said.

"I find living in the Village offers much more than an apartment - it's a lifestyle choice. I love the fact that I can walk downstairs and have a coffee or catch the bus into the city."

Attack of the Attacking Attackers!

Attack of the Attacking Attackers!

World Premiere
Created by Jonathon Oxlade, Matthew Ryan, Lucas Stibbard & Neridah Waters

All Margaret wants is a comet-spotting badge for her Brownie uniform. Too young to go camping alone, Margaret drags her big brother and his cheerleading girlfriend into the haunted woods. But when the cheerleader suddenly goes missing, the teenagers find themselves caught in a war between Space Aliens and Demons from Hell. Will they escape the hellish House on the Hill? Will they survive an Alien Probing? And what happens when you swim naked in the Swamp of No Return?

Spawned from the disturbed minds of Brisbane’s finest young theatre-makers comes this warped love letter to Sci-Fi, Horror and the War on Terror.
